    In Program Spotlight

The Summer Design Academy is a hands-on introduction to the design of sustainable built environments. We will explore how architecture, landscape architecture, interior design and urban design shape our world.  We will learn how to use creativity and design to improve our environment.

We will follow a studio format where design ideas are explored through drawing and model-making. Students will work individually and in groups exploring multiple aspects of design, ranging in scale from objects, buildings, landscapes and cities.

The program will include lectures, guest presentations, field trips, and visits to architecture offices and construction sites. Practical concerns such as applying to design schools, life in a design program, and portfolio preparation will also be addressed.

To see examples of last year's work, visit our Facebook page: UMass Amherst Pre-College Summer Design Academy.

High school students who are curious about pursuing a profession in design fields such as architecture, urban design, landscape architecture, and interior design are encouraged to apply.
