Are these questions standing between you and the Submit button? Read on and find the answers to our frequently asked questions about applying to UMass Amherst Summer Pre-College.
Q: When is the deadline to apply?
A: We have rolling admissions, which means we will continue to accept applications until two weeks before the program starts, as long as there is still space in the program. We recommend applying early, since some programs will fill up.
Q: My school's policy is that recommendations are confidential. What should I do?
A: Just ask your teacher/guidance counselor to email the recommendation directly to us at: [email protected]. When you're completing your application, write a short note stating that your recommendation is being emailed directly, save it as a PDF, and upload it in place of the recommendation.
Q: Do you offer scholarships?
A: A limited number of partial scholarships are available on a program-by-program basis. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of financial need and academic merit. Programs currently accepting scholarship applications are: Forensic Chemistry, Biotech Boot Camp and Sport Management. Please see http://www.umass.edu/summer/precollege.html#programFees for guidelines.
Q: How soon do I find out if I've been accepted?
A: Applications are reviewed as soon as they come in. Usually you can expect to hear back with an admissions decision within a week.
Q: How many students are accepted to this program?
A: This varies by program. Most lab-based programs have space for about 15 students. Other programs, such as Sport Management or the Summer Engineering Institute, have space for 30 – 40 students.
